Why This Matters for Your RBT Career

The field of ABA continues to evolve, and being an effective RBT requires more than knowing how to implement programs and collect accurate data. RBTs have an enormous influence on what ABA actually feels like to the people receiving services. This course helps RBTs develop the clinical awareness to ask not only, “Am I implementing this correctly?” but also, “Is this necessary? Is it respectful? What is this client communicating? Is there an opportunity for meaningful choice? And when should I bring a concern to my BCBA?” RBTs will leave with practical strategies for recognizing assent and withdrawal, supporting autonomy, responding compassionately to distress, using client interests to promote engagement, honoring communication, and identifying when treatment may warrant further discussion with a supervisor. About This Course

Going Beyond Ethics Into Values explores what it means to move beyond simply following ethical rules and toward providing ABA services that consistently reflect dignity, compassion, autonomy, curiosity, and respect. Designed specifically for RBTs, this course examines how everyday interactions can support—or unintentionally limit—a client’s voice, choice, and meaningful participation. Learners will explore assent and withdrawal, behavior as communication, unnecessary demands, client-led and naturalistic teaching, reasonable requests, supportive prompting, and the difference between compliance-focused and values-driven practice. Through practical examples, non-examples, reflection questions, and realistic RBT scenarios, the course helps RBTs translate these principles into decisions they can make during everyday sessions while remaining within their scope of practice and working collaboratively with their supervising BCBA.
